New marble and terrazzo slabs should always be treated a couple of times at first. The slab should be treated with "Protect Marble & Stone" from Leatchermaster, or alternatively, apply a thin layer of paraffin oil/white oil. Feel free to let the oil sit on the surface for a while, then wipe off and polish. For daily cleaning and as a good protection, use a damp dishcloth and plain soapy water. The soap forms a film and provides a certain amount of protection.
